Celebrating Dot Day

"Make your mark and see where it takes you" is a quote by "The Dot" author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds.
I love the powerful messages in his books and read his stories each year. This year, we participated in International Dot Day by creating circular shapes with designs on simple construction paper with markers and/or oil pastels. We are now working to collage the designs together for a hallway display.

I love the hand drawn and cut shapes as much as the beautiful, individual designs that my students created as they are a reflection of how individual and special each artist is. So many students and staff members wore dots (or stripes) today as a visual reminder of Reynolds' quote. Being a Monday, I was impressed by how many members of our school community actually remembered. And the funny thing is that this message is a special one for adults as much as children. Have the courage to make a mark and see where it takes you.

Fun Week of Glass Fusing

Well, the 4th graders did their part this week and created some really neat glass tiles. 

Jessica Liddell has now transported the tiles to her studio where she will fuse each tile in the kiln and bring them back to Bear Tavern to be set in a window.

Breast Cancer Awareness: Garden of Hope Mural Pictures

Here are pictures of the ceramic Garden of Hope mural we put up at the end of October for Breast Cancer Awareness. All students helped to install the mural.

The Doodle Wall Takes Post

I am VERY excited that the first doodles have been added to our doodle wall. Let me zoom back a little before continuing....... <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I enjoy doodling. It's relaxing, has no expectations and can dig into the total randomness of our being.
I love doodling as an Art Teacher because kids can appreciate the Elements of Design (line, value, color, shape, texture, space, form) and their instantaneous value in making a cool doodle or enhancing one. 

So, we are starting a DOODLE WALL. Right now it is located on the inside of the art room door. Students and Staff can doodle on a scrap piece of paper or on a post-it note using black Sharpie or a colored marker.
When done doodling, stick it on the doodle wall.
Once we have enough doodles, we will turn it into a mural to exhibit somewhere. 

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..............Now that you know why I'm so excited, I would love it if you encourage your child to randomly draw...on a napkin at a restaurant, in the car, whenever, where ever. Doodles will not have names on them unless the artist chooses to ad a name into the design. This is a group installation with only one rule...doodle.
